We build shockingly audacious & expensive vehicular infrastructure across every reach of the globe. Yet some yawn or stomach claims of impossibility when considering improved pedestrian access in our small communities.
Aptos, at the center of Santa Cruz County, is somewhat of a transportation nightmare, home to the “mother of all chokepoints” - The Aptos Strangler! Massive transportation development projects are being planned, like rail transit & highway widening.
Meanwhile, our surface streets are in poor condition and lack basic accommodations for pedestrians, like sidewalks or even signs & pavement markings.
We can do better than this. It won’t be easy. But it isn’t impossible. Let’s bring complete streets to Aptos!
